On 22nd of May an exciting and well attended clinic on the topic:

"Lungeing and working from the ground" with the German instructor Corinna Schubert took place at Hof Herrenberg (near Frankfurt).

Beautifully located in the countryside, Hof Herrenberg is the perfect location for retreats, either with horses or for meditation and other events.

Corinna Schubert comes regularly for weekend-clinics, as well as Hanna Engström and Bent Branderup.

In her clinic in may – as there where many participants only for the theory, Corinna Schubert explained in detail the importance of working with the horse from the ground.

Corinna Schubert is in her theory lessons especially structured and explains very lively the background for the academical art of riding.

She said: “You can practice everything from the ground and it is a great way to teach the commands for riding later."

She explained the benefits:

-We have influence onto the neck.

-Can win the confidence of the horse. For this purpose, I walk with the horse from both sides.

-Improvement of Balance: The horse has no rider weight and therefore has less of balance problems. Often, the balance starts to shake as soon as I take control.
The rider also moves on the horse, which in turn increases the balance problems of the horse. Has the horse (or the rider) physical problems – even more difficulties will arise for both in balance.

Therefore, the ground work is a very important point in the training in order to achieve the balance.

Who is good for working from ground?
Basically, all breeds.

What do we use?
cavesson with bridle or only cavesson.

For whom is it good to work from ground?
The work is a good way of working with horses for people with time management problem. And who does not have this problem today?

For anxious horses. However, I must also ask: Why is the horse scared in my presence?

An unclear leadership of the person who manages the horse also causes fear. The horse will then take the leadership position.

Working from ground is very good for horses that have lost the motivation.

You have to cooperate with the mental disposition of the horse - you have to come to the point that the horse feels, this is exciting, what I was doing.

Then it will be for both much more interesting and joyful.

Everybody was very happy with the clinic.

Another clinic about how to lunge and how to do the work from the ground is planned.
